Our Joyful Village

Through art, inspiration, and adventure, we bring joy to the busy and overworked.

We believe that...

  • joy and work need not be mutually exclusive.
  • our work helps reduce personal, professional, and program stress.
  • creativity is an effective antidote for life overload.

A big kid at heart, Lori launched The Joy Guild in 2007, bringing together her professional background in the corporate, education, and non-profit sectors with a passion for arts education. She's an alumna of Sonoma State University where she studied Communications and Studio Photography and the University of San Francisco for organizational leadership in the Graduate School of Education. Today, she specializes in marketing communications management, building business infrastructure, and streamlining project lifecycles. Lori continues to envision a world where people find play AND work that brings them joy.

Lori's love of the arts began at a very early age and her passion for photography began in 1985, leading her on many photo essay journeys -- from Moab, Utah to Melbourne, Australia. An avid nature photographer, Lori has a keen eye for capturing emotions, humor, and grandeur in her work.

In addition to her time with The Joy Guild (leading many of the Art Camp for Big Kids events), Lori is a communications and project management consultant, leads the Pacific NW Chapter of the National Cervical Cancer Coalition as a survivor-turned-advocate, volunteers her time as an event photographer, and teaches art photography instruction in Washington and California. In her leisure time, she particularly enjoys travel, performing, live music, reading, film, and design.

The Fancy Lady Society offers pin-up style photo shoots and sponsors burlesque events for specific causes within the community. Become a "Fancy Lady....with Purpose" and join the Fancy Lady Society as an advocate or ambassador for your cause. Members of the Fancy Lady Society are requested (but, never required) to attend upcoming social events to stay connected, such as: cocktail hours, potlucks/BBQ's, afternoon tea, sunday brunch. You need not be fancy nor a lady to join.

My mom used to call me her "little confetti maker" as I'd sit and entertain myself with a pair of scissors and paper for hours on end. All that scribbling and cutting has come to this body of work and life I have now. Art making used to be very scary for me, but learning to experiment playfully has saved me from that god awful need to "know how to draw." I hope you are inspired and delighted by my work and begin listening to your own creative longings.
