Make Art. Do Good. March Gallery Show (Seattle)
March Show: The Joy of Photography
Artist reception and public sale date: March 23, 2012
Photographic art donation for the March show will exclusively feature work of Seattle Photography Club members and is by invitation only!
...
Make Art. Do Good. is a monthly gallery charity show, auction, and sale. We solicit donated artwork from local artists – professional and amateur – that is then offered in a public gallery show. 100% of the profits from the show are given as a charitable gift to a chosen nonprofit organization each month. We accept all types of artwork that meets size and eligibility criteria.
Why participate?
You get the chance to showcase your art for philanthropic good and gain exposure of your work in public. We then pool our creative endeavors for the benefit of a local charitable organization. Plus, this allows accessibility to a wide variety of art media to the general public at reduced rates, getting original artwork in the hands of more people. Galleries also benefit through in-kind donations that gain new audiences.
Our current charity recipient for March 2012 is ASHA’s National Cervical Cancer Coalition, Pacific Northwest Chapter.
Basic participant eligibility:
- For the March show, participants must be members of the Seattle Photography Club (membership is open and free…go to the club page here to join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/seattlephoto/)
- All donated artwork will be sold or auctioned for charity donation. No compensation will be given to the donating artist.
- Artwork donations for the March show focus on photographic art (photographic mixed media may be accepted).
- A signed release to use the art image in the show and supporting marketing materials of The Joy Guild.
- We aim to include many different forms of artistic expression and to cast a wide net of viewpoints in our shows. However, artwork cannot contain blatantly offensive material, vulgarity, or profanity, and show organizers reserve the right to refuse submissions at their discretion.
- Participants must be at least 18 years old.
- We’re limited to 40 items for each show. Participants may submit 1-2 pieces initially. If there’s room, you can consider donating more.
Prizes:
Best in show categories may feature a small cash gift in addition to participant recognition.
Presentation:
Artwork should not exceed 3’x4’ finished size (in-frame) and must be aesthetically finished by the artist for a gallery presentation. Recognizing that framing costs are high, you are not required to submit complex or costly framing—a simple frame with or without matting is fine. Remember that this is a charity show…you may present your artwork as it looks best but doesn’t stretch your own art budget. Repurposed framing materials and/or more formal and elaborate presentations are also welcome. We are working with local companies to offer discounted mounting and framing services…stay tuned!
Submission instructions:
All finished donations must be received no later than March 3, 2012. Send an email to lori@joyguild.com with a digital preview of your work. She will send directions for artwork delivery.
Thank you!!!
